Human Rights Defenders are those who, individually or together with others, promote and protect human rights, whether civil, political, economic, social, cultural or environmental.

Any person or group of persons may be a Human Rights Defender, from international organisations to people working in local communities.

Those who put their life and freedom at risk to defend human rights continue to suffer intimidation, harassment, criminalisation and violence in Central America and Mexico, where exercising the right to defend rights is a dangerous activity.

CIFCA promotes respect for the work of human rights defenders and advocates for adequate spaces for human rights defenders and civil society.
